New LLEP World of Work area logistics film

A list of Logistics Job Titles and somebody looking at them

The LLEP have updated their logistics ‘World of Work’ sector film to help to provide an introduction to this thriving area of work and to raise awareness of the wide-ranging employment opportunities across the industry.

As online retail booms, logistics offers a wide range of roles, from supply chain to robotics to transport planning to green technologies, to ensure that customers get goods faster than ever! There are hundreds of jobs available right now and the opportunity to find an exciting career is huge, but the sector is often unknown to young people.

The film has been updated to help local young people discover the jobs and careers available nearby, and will be used as a resource by schools, colleges, DWP advisers, careers services, and the voluntary and community sector to convey opportunities in the area. Due to the LLEPs central location, many logistics companies and distributions centres are keen to be based here, meaning plenty of job, apprenticeship and career opportunities.

The LLEP worked with several key logistics employment sites on the film, including Magna Park, Mercia Park, SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway, and East Midlands Airport; film footage was kindly supplied by GLP, IM Properties, SEGRO and East Midlands Airport respectively.

Kevin Harris is Chair of the LLEP Board of Directors.  He said:

“The LLEP skills team have worked very hard with partners and local employers to produce this informative film that explains the logistics sector and conveys some of the employment opportunities. It is vital that local residents of all ages have an awareness of local career opportunities so that they can forge a sustainable employment path in growth sectors such as logistics.”

Anna Cyhan, LLEP Economic Growth and Investment Officer, who updated the film said:

‘’People may have pre-conceptions about working in logistics, but it’s a really broad area, with so many different opportunities across a range of areas, but also one that you can ‘get in’ and ‘get on’ at any level, with a lot of opportunity for promotion and training. This film resource can be used by anyone supporting young people and adults to show them about why it’s a great sector to consider, and enhance links between industry and education.’’

The LLEP has a growing range of World of Work Leicestershire sector films that are used across schools, colleges and wider groups to help to convey the world of work; with complimentary resources, lesson plans and activities. The LLEP Skills and Careers Hub teams work very closely on these resources, which you can find here: https://llep.lccwp-lb-stg.tibushost.com/careers-hub/wow/ and the direct link to the logistics film is here: https://bit.ly/3IROHEP
