Two brand new careers and jobs films have been released by the LLEP to promote a booming area of Leicestershire and raise awareness of the wide-ranging employment opportunities at the East Midlands Enterprise Gateway (EMEG).
This is a growing area of industry and jobs around Castle Donington in North West Leicestershire, that sits next to the borders of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
As online retail booms, and customers need goods faster than ever before, EMEG has geared up to meet this huge demand. There are thousands of jobs available right now and the opportunity to find an exciting career is huge. Due to the central location, this hot spot of industrial growth offers job and apprenticeship opportunities across many sectors, especially logistics, and employers can offer quick progression when they spot real talent.
The films include interviews with SEGRO, The Very Group, East Midlands Airport, and a case study from The Princes Trust.
The films have been created to help local people discover the jobs and careers available nearby, and open their eyes to the amazing employment opportunities at EMEG. They will be used as a resource by DWP advisers, careers services, schools, colleges, and the voluntary and community sector to convey opportunities in the area.

“The LLEP skills team have worked very hard with partners and local employers to produce these informative films that showcase the superb employment opportunities at EMEG. We are very grateful for their support and contributions.
“EMEG is huge and covers five key sites, offering jobs across East Midlands Airport, East Midlands Distribution Centre, where a huge Marks and Spencer is based, Castle Donington (with multiple businesses), Aldi’s regional distribution centre and SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway. This means the range of jobs are extremely broad and not just warehouse positions. With the announcement of the Freeport back in March 2021, that is estimated to bring another 60,000 new skilled jobs, the region is set to transform its social and economic future.

To meet the vast employment opportunities, the LLEP is part of an East Midlands Enterprise Gateway Skills Partnership Project (managed by North West Leicestershire District Council) which has task and finish groups to support skills and employment for the area. The LLEP leads the resources group with members including North West Leicestershire District Council, DWP, D2N2, SEGRO, GXO, Princes Trust, Marks and Spencer and Leicestershire County Council. The group are also looking at other resources, and areas like DWP initiatives, and enhanced links with schools through virtual insight days.
Other project activity Includes mapping jobs and skills requirements of EMEG employers in the immediate and long term, jointly coordinating skills and careers fairs, and producing job and career materials for schools, parents and potential employees.
The LLEP already produces sector films that are used both in schools, colleges and wider groups to help to convey the world of work; and being part of the EMEG Skills Partnership Project has enabled cross border LEP collaboration to promote a thriving area for careers and jobs.
